Red Carpet at the TB12 Boston opening party

Such a honor to be with Mr Brady

Such a honor to be with Mr Brady

It was a great honor to be invited to the Red Carpet ceremony at TB12 Boston on Tuesday night. Mr. Tom Brady celebrated the grand opening of TB12’s new facility at 699 Boylston St, Boston, MA, and the gym officially opened for business on today I am writing this article. Since I am involved in product developments for their pliability tools such as the pliability vibration roller and sphere, I am so happy as if it finally happened to me. It is the second TB12 facility to open. Mr. Brady and his trainer, Alex Guerrero, opened their first location, where I rehabbed my post shoulder surgery, in Foxborough back in 2013. Unlike Foxborough, the new Boston location will offer group exercise classes and a smoothie bar, in addition to individual body coaching. As you guys already know, this is the beginning when Mr. Brady shared that it would be “coming soon to NYC, LA, Chicago, Phoenix, South Florida, Atlanta, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Houston, and more!” At TB12 facilities, body coaches help people of all ages and athletic levels do what they love better and for longer by providing personalized services and developing customized programs.

keep Going

While many athletes get stuck in a cycle of injury and rehab, including myself, I had been trapped in the belief that strength training/hard training session is the only path toward peak performance. I am from a traditional martial arts background and yes, it is still tough and difficult for me to control training volume and take care of myself. Have you said, “I am not 20s anymore“? I used to repeat saying that million times, but anymore. why? because this would be a negative phrase for me (I am not saying for everyone). It may sounds an excuse for myself to compromise with my daily training volume/quality. After I have opportunities to work on pliability product development, I have a deeper understanding of pliability and the difference between muscle capacity and peak performance state. Now I am more confident in decreasing my training volume and shorten my practice session time. Additionally, sometimes my training volume becomes better in quality and volume by applying pliability.

Needless to say, this is not a short term fix or magic pill type of solution. I do pliability sessions with rollers and spheres for 10-15 minutes every morning. This would be an hour of mobility work per week. Releasing tighten muscle from the fighter’s stance and priming muscle conditioning is essential for MMA fighter to work on both performance training, aka skill training such as striking and grappling, and strength & conditioning. Although being loose is not for everyone, for example too much myofascial release is not good for high explosive performance such as powerlifting, releasing chronic pain/ muscle tightness is very important for everyone’s general health.

Longevity isn’t just for professional athletes like myself who want to play at the highest level for as long as possible, and neither is TB12. Let’s say I reach out to the time I decide to stop competing in the cage professionally, I will still keep my daily routine of TB12 pliability in my life. Why? because I strongly believe that the pliability concept and daily mobility session would make an positive effect on longevity. Plus, as a health consultant, I guide my clients through the steps necessary to make it possible. With my commitment to a personalized approach to improving performance and recovery, I always learn, do my best, and make longevity attainable for individuals.

Well, this is why TB12 sports therapy center is a special place for me. It is not because of “the famous NFL player“ or “red carpet ceremony“. I have spent lots of my time on not only product development, but at the lowest (darkness during post-surgery rehab) and highest (like last night at the ceremony) moment at TB12 therapy center. Through product development, I have been also learning new things in human anatomy, physiology and physical science. I really appreciate for learning opportunities to grow as a person as well as professional athlete from the bottom of my heart.

TB12 & Doctor Air

I had the honor of being a bridge between TB12 and Doctor air. When I and team Doctor Air from Japan visited a new facility on Boylston street and saw a bunch of pliability products as you can see above, I was almost crying. It has been a long way to make this happen and all my hard work and teamwork paid off. Pliability tools are not only essential for their group class but also accessible to those who cannot visit centers. These two items are essential for pliability. Delivered in conjunction with the innovators at Doctor Air in Japan, the Vibrating Pliability Roller & Sphere both have a durable and contoured shell and 4 vibrational frequencies specifically designed to stimulate the brain-body connection.

People can learn and use tools to apply pliability to their lifestyle, and eventually become independent who are able to take care of themselves without body coaches. This is exactly the same as my coaching style and concept. When it comes to recovery though pliability tools, people have to learn new skills and understand how their muscle tension gets released. My biggest motivation and its strong point for this project are that this is neither a passive massage sessions by body coaches nor selling massage tools. This is why I found a challenge worth doing 2 years ago.

This is just the beginning. I hope we can produce more meaningful products in the future. Congrats TB12! Keep Going!
