UFC Fight Night 59 in Boston

Massachusetts fighter Tateki Matsuda gets a second shot in the UFC on January 18, when the promotion returns to the TD Garden next year.  Matsuda will drop down to Flyweight for the first time in his career and will be matched up against Joby Sanchez, also in his UFC sophomore appearance. Matsuda joins a stacked card in Boston, headlined by Conor McGregor vs. Dennis Siver & Benson Henderson vs. Eddie Alvarez.

The bout will be contested at flyweight.

UFC Fight Night 59 takes place Jan. 18 at Boston’s TD Garden. The main card airs on FOX Sports 1 following prelims expected for FOX Sports 2 and UFC Fight Pass.

Matsuda, a 28-year-old Japanese fighter now living and fighting out of Massachusetts, recently took a late-notice opportunity to fight in the UFC and suffered a decision loss to bantamweight Chris Beal in September. The fighter, who had been competing on the East Coast with organizations such as CES MMA and VCS, now heads to 125 pounds.

He meets Sanchez, a former XFC and Tachi Palace Fights competitor who opened his career with a 6-0 mark. The 23-year-old Team Jackson-Winkeljohn fighter then signed with the UFC and suffered a decision loss to Wilson Reis in his promotional debut.
